Retractable Pool Enclosures - Frequently Asked Questions

Just like a sunroom or solarium, but on wheels! Like a solarium or sunroom, a retractable pool enclosure provides an outdoor view with an indoor setting. However, unlike indoor pools or sunrooms, retractable pool enclosures can open up to your backyard.

Retractable pool enclosures are used for spa pools, patios, hot tubs and swimming pools. However, retractable pool enclosures can also be used as indoor pool for hotels, roofs (roof enclosure), covering decks or patios just like a solarium or sunroom. By having the pool enclosure connecting to your home, you can create an easy direct access to your swimming pool for the winter months.

Retractable patio and pool enclosures provide the benefit of extending the service life and life of your swimming pool and accessories and reducing the maintenance costs and time. A retractable pool enclosure will also do the following:

  • Extend your entertainment and exercise area for all seasons
  • Provide the warmth of the sun with no harmful effects of UV rays
  • Provide protection from irritating insects and bugs or animals similar to screened pool enclosures but even better
  • And there are even more benefits!

Retractable pool enclosures are made of individual bays, which that are telescopic so they move and retract, one inside or over the other. Each moving bay has wheels that are mounted on a track, guiding each section as it moves. The retractable enclosure can be partially or opened fully. The automated electric drive system handles the movement of the enclosure. No pushing or pulling.

Yes! On cloudy days, the pool enclosure will trap the solar energy. Just like solarium the enclosure will increase air temperature 10-20°C/18-36°F when closed. If you have a spa or heated pool the water will provide an additional source of heat. The heat from the water and sun will keep the enclosure at a comfortable temperature. In northern areas additional heat sources using our air handlers and hydronic floor design.

No. When the retractable pool enclosure is closed, there are seals between the bays and along the bottom which will prevent leaves, dirt and other debris collecting inside the pool enclosure. When enclosures installed over spa pools and swimming pools they will significantly reduce maintenance cost and time.

Our telescopic pool enclosures are built with an electric automated drive system. Push a button and the retractable pool enclosure will open! A large retractable pool enclosure will fully open in minutes.

Most manufactures require some or all the snow to be removed from the roof and really not suited for colder weather but warmer climates. COVERS in Play pool enclosures are designed and made for northern winters and are built to withstand the extremes of any snow load. No snow removal is required.

A retractable pool enclosure, unlike a home, is not a fully insulated environment. When internal enclosure temperatures exceed external outside temperatures, you will see condensation form on the panels, particularly if the pool enclosure is covering a spa or pool.

No action is necessary to address the condensation as it will not harm the enclosure. When condensation forms, the pool enclosure is designed to handle excess moisture. The roof panels are designed to ensure water runs down and collect in the condensation gutters. These gutters collect and redirect water out from the enclosure. Seals are also installed between each bay of the enclosure and all enclosure parts are specifically chosen for their ability to withstand the environment Unlike conventional construction for an indoor pool in a house or hotel building, there is nothing in a COVERS in Play enclosure that will rust, rot, mould or corrode. It has been specifically designed and engineered for a swimming pool environment.

Condensation can be eliminated or minimized by the following options:

  • Using a pool cover or blanket with your pool
  • Venting the pool enclosure by opening windows, doors and/or opening the pool enclosure itself
  • Installing a dehumidifier
